The 2017 conference brought together work from twenty five disciplines. The range is wide: anthropology and automation at one end, political science and systems science at the other.
In between were education, media, software development, management, pedagogy, health care, politics, social innovation, integration, art, personal development, and design. Each field arrived with its own questions and its own way of describing a pattern.
The breadth is the point. A pattern language gives a fragmented landscape of expertise a common way to speak. It does not flatten the differences between fields. It gives them a shared form in which to compare what they know.
That is why the conference is best understood as a dialogue rather than a single research programme. The value lies in the exchange between disciplines, not in a uniform method imposed on all of them.
